Miss WARDasked the Secretary for Mines whether he has been informed if it is the intention of the Coal Mines Reorganisation Commission, under the powers conferred on it under Section 12 (1) of the Coal Mines Act, 1930, to further the reorganisation of the industry otherwise than by amalgamation?
§ Mr. ISAAC FOOTThe primary duty of the Commission under the Act is to promote and assist the amalgamation of collieries, but I understand that they are 1102 prepared to interpret the word amalgamation broadly and to consider any scheme of reorganisation which is calculated to produce the results at which they aim.
