HC Deb 12 July 1932 vol 268 c1107
65. Mr. CHARLES

BROWN asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the total numbers of Germans who were granted permits to enter this country for erecting hosiery machinery and for instructional purposes during the years 1930 and 1931, and for the six months ending 30th June, 1932?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Henry Betterton)

It is estimated that the number of German machinery erectors and technical workers for the hosiery trade admitted under permit did not exceed 20 during each of the two years 1930 and 1931. The corresponding figure for the first six months of 1932 is approximately 60.

Mr. BROWN

Owing to the unsatisfactory nature of the reply, I beg to give notice that if I have an opportunity I shall raise this matter on the Motion for the Adjournment to-morrow.
