HC Deb 12 July 1932 vol 268 c1092
7. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has received the report of the committee appointed by the Chamber of Shipping to consider the issues affecting British shipping in general; and whether, prior to the Conference at Ottawa, his Department will familiarise themselves with the views of the Chamber of Shipping for discussion in Canada?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have received the report referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend, and I can assure him that it is being most carefully considered.

Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

Will my right hon. Friend recall that in 1923 the Imperial Economic Conference laid it down that should there be any discrimination by foreigners against ships under the British flag, the Imperial and Dominion Governments would meet together to decide what action should be taken; and would not Ottawa be a suitable opportunity for that discussion?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have already told my hon. and gallant Friend that the matter is being carefully considered.
