HC Deb 11 July 1932 vol 268 c877
22. Mr. NUNN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is in a position to furnish any information as to the position of affairs in Siam; and whether he can give an assurance that the interests of British nationals are adequately safeguarded?

Sir J. SIMON

A military committee took possession of the Government on the 24th June and, on their invitation, the King has accepted a Constitution, which was proclaimed and entered into force on the 27th June. I have not yet received full details of this Constitution. I am informed that this change took place without any public disorder, that martial law was not declared and that business, both public and private, has been proceeding normally. I have received an official assurance that all treaty obligations will be observed by the new Government and that the life and property of all foreigners will be scrupulously protected as heretofore.
