§ 33. Mr. HALL-CAINEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the saving that could be effected in next year's Budget if the cost of the beet-sugar subsidy could be removed, he will consider the advisability of appointing the committee of inquiry into the sugar-beet industry without further delay, in order that its report may be available before the next Budget is drafted?
§ Major ELLIOTNo, Sir. As I have previously explained, this committee is intended specifically to advise the Government what action should be taken when the present Subsidy Act expires in 1934. Its report cannot affect next year's Budget.
