HC Deb 05 July 1932 vol 268 cc229-30
27. Mr. McKEAG

asked the Secretary for Mines if he will, at an early date, make a statement as to the results of research in regard to the low-temperature carbonisation and hydrogenation processes of dealing with coal?

Mr. ISAAC FOOT

As was stated by my right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council on the 23rd September last in reply to a question by the former Member for Pontefract (Mr. T. Smith), the Government decided to continue with the scheme which had been adopted by the previous Government for research into low-temperature carbonisation and hydrogenation, but in a somewhat modified form. The plant then decided upon is still in course of erection.
