HC Deb 05 July 1932 vol 268 cc244-5
64. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for India what procedure the Government proposes to adopt with regard to the setting up of a constitution for Burma?

Sir VICTOR WARRENDER (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to reply. His Majesty's Government have given careful consideration to this matter; but until the people of Burma have indicated that they desire separation from India and that. a separate constitution will in fact be required for Burma, it would be premature to make any statement as to the procedure which would be followed in that event.

Mr. MANDER

Is it not intended to deal with the Burma Constitution simultaneously with the Constitution for India as a whole?

Mr. HANNON

Will the hon. Gentleman consider the propriety of sending my hon. Friend the Member for East Wolverhampton (Mr. Mander) to Burma?
