HC Deb 04 July 1932 vol 268 cc27-8
64. Mr. THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade, if he has any information in regard to the recent Act passed by the Norwegian Government increasing the tariffs; and if he can state whether the increase applies to exports from this country?

Mr. COLVILLE

I understand that a measure was passed by the Norwegian Parliament on 28th June empowering the Government to increase or impose duties during the Parliamentary recess. The measure does not of itself increase or impose duties.

Mr. HANNON

Is there any discrimination against British exports implied in this new law?

Mr. COLVILLE

No, Sir. The Norwegian Government has taken powers to impose duties on imports from any country, but the Act itself does not impose duties, and we have now powers to deal with any discrimination should it arise.
