§ 92. Major CARVERasked the Minister of Transport whether he can state the number of schemes for lines of cable-carrying pylons in connection with the electricity grid which have been refused permission or essentially modified by his Department; and if he will give the districts and the reasons in each case?

§ Following is the answer:
§ Up to the present one application from the Central Electricity Board relating to an overhead line and five applications for wayleaves in connection with the "Grid" schemes have been refused. The applications related respectively to an overhead line at Wanstead, Essex, and to way-leaves at Dagenham, Essex; Nuneham, Oxford; and Bolney Crawley and Hollington in Sussex. Four cases were refused after local inquiries and consideration of all the circumstances, including representations that there would be undue interference with local amenities. The other two refusals were based on legal grounds. In certain other cases, consents to overhead lines for the "Grid" schemes have been given after local inquiries, subject to modifica- 1828 tions, including variations of the route originally proposed. My hon. and gallant Friend will find various particulars relating to consents for overhead lines and wayleaves in the annual reports of the Minister of Transport on the Electricity (Supply) Acts and in the annual reports of the Electricity Commissioners.
