asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether public funds will defray the cost of the transfer and temporary housing of the Elgin Marbles pending their removal to the new room to be erected at the British Museum?

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether a Government Department will be responsible for the safety of the national property to be housed temporarily pending transfer from the Elgin Marbles Room at the British Museum to a new room to be erected at the British Museum on a site owned by the public; and, if so, upon what Vote will the expenditure fall?

There is no intention of moving the Elgin Marbles until the new room has been completed. The removal will be carried out by the British Museum staff.

Is it desirable to have these foreign-made articles in this country at all?
