HC Deb 16 February 1932 vol 261 cc1455-6
55. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the present position as regards the proposed amendments put forward to the recommendations of the Endowments Commission with reference to the Marr Trust and other scholastic endowments in Ayrshire?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Major Sir Archibald Sinclair)

Schemes for the Marr Trust and the Ferguson Mortification (Irvine), in the county of Ayr, have been submitted to the Scottish Education Department, and, in terms of the Educational Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1928, were duly published on 5th January last. On the expiration of the prescribed period of two months, they will fall to be considered by the Department, together with any objections that may be made to them in writing by any public body or persons interested.

Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

In view of the change of Government which has taken place since this Commission sat, will my right hon. Friend bear in mind the confiscatory nature of these Socialist proposals, and give it his attention when the matter comes before him?

Sir A. SINCLAIR

It is not for me to express any opinion on the proposals. If there are such objections as my hon. and gallant Friend suggests in these proposals, they will, no doubt, be brought to my attention.
