HC Deb 15 February 1932 vol 261 cc1251-2
4. Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the Secretary of State for India if he will give the House the latest information he has as to the political situation in India?

6. Mr. DAVID GRENFELL

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he can make a statement in regard to the political situation in India?

Sir S. HOARE

I am circulating a statement.

Following is the statement:

This week's reports from Provincial Governments indicate improvement in the following respects:

A new feature is the hiring of Red Shirts from the Frontier Province for picketing elsewhere. The chief activity of Congress is now the boycott. Underground agitation continues, but at present gives little cause for anxiety.

On the 13th February at Hossanabad in the Tipperah District of Bengal police were attacked and forced to fire. Three persons were killed.

The situation in Kashmir and Jammu is much easier, but reactions on communal feeling in British India, especially in the Punjab, are more marked.
