§ 53. Major JESSONasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that relieving officers who stand as candidates for election to local councils are in a position to canvass electors who apply to them for relief; and whether he will issue an instruction that in future these officers be informed that such a practice is contrary to public policy?
Sir H. YOUNGI am aware of the possibility referred to in the first part of the question, but I have no information showing that abuses do in practice occur. As at present advised, I think the matter can be left to the discretion of the county and county borough councils who are the employers of these officers.
