HC Deb 09 February 1932 vol 261 cc634-5
4. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will give a list of organisations which have approached his Department since the formation of the present Government asking for protection for home products against foreign competition?

25. Captain ERSKINE-BOLST

asked the President of the Board of Trade from which trade organisations he has received deputations on subjects relating to tariffs since 1st November last, giving in each case the number of times deputations have been received from each organisation in question?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Many representations of the kind mentioned have been made to the Board of Trade in recent weeks, but I do not think any useful purpose would be served by issuing a list of them.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the hon. Gentleman give us an idea how many organisations have been involved?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

It would be easier to give a list of those who have not come.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Might we not know exactly whence comes the pressure to which the hon. Member referred a day or two ago?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

There is no pressure of any kind. The Board of Trade exists in this country for the purpose of assisting industry.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the hon. Gentleman say whether it is true that a Rhubarb Growers' Association is in the list?
