HC Deb 09 February 1932 vol 261 c656
48. Mr. BROCKLEBANK

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what Parliamentary grants have been withdrawn or reduced during November and December, 1931, and the amount involved?

50. Major THOMAS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give any information as to the economies which are being effected in Government Departments?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

For the action taken by His Majesty's Government to reduce expenditure I would refer my hon. Friends to the White Paper issued in September last and to the subsequent proceedings in connection with the Economy Act. The White Paper indicated that economies to the amount of 222,000,000 were expected in the current financial year, a figure which I have every reason to believe will be fully realised. I regret that it is impracticable to give figures of economies effected in Government expenditure for particular months of the year.
