HC Deb 04 February 1932 vol 261 c232
16. Mr. PARKINSON

asked the Minister of Labour when it is proposed to ratify the Washington Hours Convention and establish an eight-hour day in this country?

Sir H. BETTERTON

I have nothing to add to the reply given yesterday to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton East (Mr. Mander) on this subject.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether he has taken the matter into consideration or not?

Sir H. BETTERTON

Yes, Sir. All questions relating to my Department come before me for my consideration.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Are we to understand from the reply that they have absolutely made up their minds and that they are not going to do anything?

Viscountess ASTOR

Is the reason for not passing this legislation the same as that of the late Government when they were in office?
