33. Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Health the number of rural district councils in England and Wales who made applications for special Ex-chequer assistance under the provisions of the Housing (Rural Authorities) Act, 1931; the total number of houses included in their proposals; and the number of houses which the Central Advisory Committee have recommended for erection under this Act?

Applications have been received from 145 rural district councils, of which six were subsequently withdrawn. The remaining 139 applications were in respect of 6,735 houses. The committee are not yet in a position to make actual recommendations.
