§ Sir H. SAMUELThere are 48 male governors and deputy-governors of prisons, of whom 41 had served with His Majesty's Forces before they were appointed to their present posts. The figure of 41 includes 22 whose experience—apart from service with the Forces during the War—has been civilian experience.
