HC Deb 04 February 1932 vol 261 c237
25. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Home Secretary what is the total number of superintendents and assistant-superintendents of prisons; and how many of these have served previously in His Majesty's Forces?

Sir H. SAMUEL

There are 48 male governors and deputy-governors of prisons, of whom 41 had served with His Majesty's Forces before they were appointed to their present posts. The figure of 41 includes 22 whose experience—apart from service with the Forces during the War—has been civilian experience.
