HC Deb 04 February 1932 vol 261 c241
34. Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Health what county councils pay their members travelling expenses under Section 52 of the Local Government Act, 1929; whether any basis or scale has been adopted; and whether he is prepared to introduce legislation to allow other local authorities to pay reasonable travelling expenses to their members who are in many cases compelled to travel longer distances than members of county councils?

Sir H. YOUNG

I regret that I have not information which county councils pay travelling expenses. I have not issued any basis or scale for such expenses, but the Act itself limits them to those necessarily incurred. I cannot undertake to introduce legislation on the lines proposed by my hon. Friend.
