HC Deb 04 February 1932 vol 261 cc239-40
32. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Health why the administration of benefits from the Army, Air Force and Navy Insurance Fund has been transferred from the insurance committees to his Department; whether those committees agreed to the transfer; and under what Statute he took action in this connection?

Sir H. YOUNG

The transfer referred to by the hon. Member was effected mainly for reasons of economy, but prompter payment of claims has also been secured. Although insurance committees did not approve of the transfer, I am glad to say that their continued co-operation in assisting claimants has been arranged for. The power to make the change is given by regulations made under the authority of Section 59 of the National Health Insurance Act, 1924.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the right hon. Gentleman inform us how many extra staff have been required to carry out this duty at the centre?
