HC Deb 02 February 1932 vol 261 c29
Mr. NEIL MACLEAN

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the report of the Committee on Hire Purchase in Scotland, and whether he is in a position to make any statement regarding the intentions of the Government on this matter?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Major Sir Archibald Sinclair)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, a Bill for the purpose of giving effect to the recommendations of the Committee will be introduced at an early date.

Mr. MACLEAN

Will there be in that Bill any provision which will prohibit the imprisonment of any hirer who fails, as is the practice just now, to pay the instalments due, and will there be a compulsory Clause that a dealer must give the hirer a copy of the hire agreement entered into between him and the hirer?

Sir A. SINCLAIR

The Bill will follow the lines of the Committee's recommendations. As regards the details, I must ask the hon. Member to await the Bill
