19. Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will give the latest information obtainable as to the area and extent of foot-and-mouth disease in Holland and adjacent countries from which foodstuffs come to this country?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Sir John Gilmour)

According to the Ministry's information, the numbers of outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in Holland, Belgium, France and Germany, in November and December of last year, were as follow:

November. December.
Holland 679 251

The incidence of the disease would appear to be general in these countries.

Mr. HURD

Is the right hon. Gentleman alarmed by those figures?

Sir J. GILMOUR

They are, on the face of it, serious figures.

Mr. LAMBERT

Is there any danger of this disease being brought over here?
