HC Deb 22 December 1932 vol 273 cc1221-2
5. Mr. DAVID GRENFELL

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the result of the discussions between employers and workers' representatives on the issue of international regulations regarding dock accidents, and the date on which the proposed regulations are to take effect?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Gilmour)

I am glad to say that the discussions have resulted in unanimous recommendations for the amendment of the Docks Regulations in force under the Factory and Workshop Act, so as to bring them fully into line with the International Labour Convention in the revised form in which it was adopted at this year's conference. Revised regulations will be issued in draft—in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Act —with the least possible delay, but I cannot at the moment say when the revised regulations will come into force.

Mr. GRENFELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman explain to the House why there should be any delay?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I imagine that it is merely a matter of procedure, and that it is not possible to go faster.
