HC Deb 19 December 1932 vol 273 cc731-2
29. Mr. DORAN

asked the Postmaster-General if, in view of the fact that the payment of the opera subsidy was dependent on the British Broadcasting Corporation having paid £25,000 to the Covent Garden Opera Syndicate during the present year, he will state what sums have been so paid over this year and the dates of payment?

Sir K. WOOD

I have ascertained that the British Broadcasting Corporation have paid over to the Opera Syndicate the full sum of £25,000 during the current year by instalments. The first payment, £8,000, was made on 1st January, and the final instalment of £7,000 was paid on the 1st October last.

Mr. COCKS

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what 'has happened to this money? How has it been spent?

Sir K. WOOD

It has been spent in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
