asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that car users in this country are taxed three times as much as those in the United States; and whether he will furnish comparable figures for the two countries of taxation in respect of the types of car in common use?
§ Mr. PYBUS
While agreeing that the total taxation of a motor vehicle and of the fuel used by it is in general appreciably greater in this country than in the United States of America, I am not in a position to give the comparable figures asked for by my hon. Friend, as the basis and rate of taxation in the United States varies from State to State and municipal taxes are also collected on varying bases.
