HC Deb 14 December 1932 vol 273 cc328-9
13. Mr. THOMAS COOK

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the total value of the meat contracts placed by his Department with foreign firms during the last six months, and the nett financial saving entailed thereby as compared with the purchase of an equivalent amount of British meat?

Sir B. EYRES MONSELL

The total value of the meat contracts placed by the Admiralty with foreign firms during the last six months is nil.

26 and 40. Mr. COOK (1)

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air the total value of meat contracts placed by his Department with foreign firms during the last six months, and the nett financial saving entailed thereby as compared with the purchase of an equivalent amount of British meat;

(2) asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office, if he will state the total value of meat contracts placed by his Department with foreign firms during the last six months, and the nett financial saving entailed thereby as compared with the purchase of an equivalent amount of British meat?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Duff Cooper)

I have been asked to reply and I will answer at the same time Question No. 40. No contracts have been placed with foreign firms for meat during the last six months. The second part of the question therefore does not arise.

Lieut.-Commander AGNEW

Is it a fact that no contracts have been placed with British suppliers of home-produced meat?

Mr. COOPER

I think a few have, but they are very small.
