1. Mr. DAVID GRENFELL

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will state the amounts' of loans made to certain American States prior to the union which have since been subject to default on the part of the respective States; and whether he has any estimate of the aggregate value of the principal sums, with interest added at the ordinary rate, since the last payment was made in each case?

4. Lord APSLEY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will state the number of American States and their names, not including Confederate States during the Secession, which raised loans in England both before and after the American Civil War; the amount of these loans; how many States have defaulted in payment of principal and interest; and the amount now owing with interest accrued?
