asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can now make a further statement as to the proposals of the Government to assist the extension of schemes for producing oil from coal?

I cannot yet add anything to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade on 29th November to the question asked by my hon. Friend the Member for Wallsend (Miss Ward).

Can the hon. Member report what progress is being made in this direction?
