HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 cc34-5
58. Mr. DAVID MASON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will furnish the House with the relative taxable capacity of England and Scotland and the ratio of tax burden to their relative taxable capacities; the amount of tax raised in each country for the different national services and the relative amounts of such revenue expended in each country?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

No information is available bearing on the first two parts of the question. As regards the third and fourth parts, a Return of Revenue and Expenditure for England and Scotland on lines similar to that which was last issued in 1922 is in preparation and will, it is hoped, be available to hon. Members before the Recess.

Mr. MASON

Would the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in conjunction with the Government, consider the advisability of appointing a Royal Commission or similar body to elicit this information?
