HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 cc4-5
8. Mr. DAVID GRENFELL

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he can state the number of cases in which flogging has been awarded as a punishment for offences connected with the civil disobedience movement, and the nature of such offences?

Mr. BUTLER

As my right hon. Friend promised the hon. Member for Caerphilly (Mr. M. Jones) on the 28th November, he has asked the Government of India for this information. I will communicate with the hon. Member when their reply is received.

Mr. GRENFELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman give the information to the whole of the House at the same time?

Mr. BUTLER

I shall be grateful to the hon. Member if he will put down a question later on.
