Mr. DORANasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the fact that the Colonial Office legal adviser was sent to Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and the Gold Coast last February with a view to bringing about closer co-operation between the native courts and the higher tribunals, he will say whether those districts where Moslem law is not in force will be included; and whether it is intended to set up machinery of appeal other than to the Emir's courts?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERCertain recommendations in connection with appeals from native courts in Nigeria other than the courts of the Emirs have been discussed with the Governor. I am not yet in a position to announce the decision, but I hope to do so shortly.
