asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of cattle slaughtered as the result of foot-and-mouth disease in 12 months to the last convenient date and the amount of compensation paid?

In the 12 months from, 24th April, 1931, to 23rd April, 1932, 3,654 cattle, 5,409 sheep, 1,204 swine, and four goats were slaughtered in connection with outbreaks of foot- and-mouth disease, and £96,433 13s. was paid as compensation to the owners of the animals.

Is the policy of the Board the same to-day as it was last year in connection with the slaughter of animals on a farm attacked by foot-and-mouth disease?

Generally, we are maintaining the slaughter policy, but we are experimenting in some cases.

Can the right hon. Gentleman give us the actual figures of compensation?

The actual amount of compensation was £95,483 13s.
