HC Deb 25 April 1932 vol 265 c31
62. Mr. HUTCHISON

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in which towns and areas in Great Britain cinematograph and musical entertainments have been given under the provisions of the Sunday Performances (Temporary Regulation) Act, 1931; and in which cases contributions have been made to charity in respect of such performances?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir Herbert Samuel)

I have no information as to the situation since the Sunday Performances (Temporary Regulation) Act was passed last year, but in December, 1930, the Home Office was informed that at that time cinematograph performances were being given on Sunday in 98 areas. It is understood that contributions to charity were made in London and three other areas. As regards concerts I have no detailed information, but it is well known that the practice of holding concerts on Sunday has obtained in London and in many other places.
