§ 76. Mr. BATEYasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of persons holding less than £l,000 in British Government securities, the number between £1,000 and £5,000, and the number beyond that figure?
§ Major ELLIOTI regret that it is not practicable to supply this information in view of the disproportionate amount of time and labour involved. An inquiry in 1929 showed that for the 5 per cent. War Loan there were approximately 2,500,000 holdings of £1,000 or under. The number of holdings of Savings Certificates (all under £1,000) is estimated at roughly 10,000,000.
§ Sir A. M. SAMUELOf what use is that picture in view of the fact that one single insurance company holds £50,000,000 of British securities on behalf of 10,000,000 policy holders?
