HC Deb 25 April 1932 vol 265 cc21-2
32 and 33. Sir A. M. SAMUEL

asked the Minister of Agriculture (1) whether he proposes to adopt the Fishing Industry Report recommendations to regulate the dates and districts for the curing of herring in Great Britain and thereby to regulate the export of British herring;

(2) which of the recommendations contained in the Fishing Industry Report [Cmd. 4012], 1932, it is proposed to put into force?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Sir John Gilmour)

As I have already informed my hon. Friend in reply to previous questions, I am considering the report referred to, in consultation with the other Ministers concerned, but I regret I cannot anticipate what conclusions may be reached in regard to any of the recommendations contained therein.

Sir A. M. SAMUEL

Is my right hon. Friend aware that it is two and a-half years since this Committee was set up, and that its recommendations were perfectly definite; and is he also aware that the herring fishing is now about to begin, and that we do not want another year to go by without something being done to help the fishing industry?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I can assure my hon. Friend that that matter will be considered?
