§ 40. Mr. GLOSSOPasked the Postmaster-General the number of postmen employed at the Stainforth Post Office, near Doncaster, in the years 1911, 1921, and 1931?
§ The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Sir Kingsley Wood)The particulars are as follow: 1911, none; 1921, 2 full-time, 1 part-time; 1931, 2 full-time, 2 part-time.
§ Mr. GLOSSOPIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that during the last 20 years the population of this village has increased by 800 per cent. and the increase in postal facilities bears no ratio?
§ Sir K. WOODI will look into the matter, but I think the postal facilities are sufficient.
§ Mr. T. WILLIAMSIs the right hon. Gentleman not aware that there is discontent in this area at the failure of the postal service?
§ Sir K. WOODIf the hon. Member has any facts to place before me I shall 'be glad to consider them.
§ 41. Mr. GLOSSOPasked the Postmaster-General whether the staff of the 25 executive department of the Doncaster General Post Office has been reduced; and whether, in view of the fact that it has taken 20 weeks to review the postal delivery services in the Stainforth area, he will consider the appointment of one or more assistant postmasters in order that the control of the area under the Doncaster General Post Office may be carried on more efficiently in the future?
§ Sir K. WOODThere has been no reduction in the staff in question at Don-caster Post Office; and there is no occasion to increase the staff at present. The review of the postal delivery services at Stainforth is part of a comprehensive scheme affecting other offices also, which has necessitated inquiry involving a considerable amount of detail.
§ Mr. GLOSSOPWill the right hon. Gentleman speed up the inquiry in view of the fact that Members of the House who may live within a mile and a half of the post office do not get their letters till half-past nine in the morning?
§ Sir K. WOODI am sorry Members of the House are suffering inconvenience. I will go into the matter and see if anything further should be done.
