HC Deb 21 April 1932 vol 264 c1625
35. Mr. LEONARD

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that resentment has been aroused in Skye and the Western Isles because loans to landholders for houses and steadings make no allowance for sanitary conveniences, while loans given in other areas do make provision for such sanitary improvements; and whether he will take steps to remove this differentiation?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir Archibald Sinclair)

No, Sir. In the ordinary case of the Island croft the absence of gravitation water and sewage disposal systems renders it impracticable to include in the houses sanitary conveniences of the type common in the Lowlands. Where circumstances permit the adoption of these conveniences, the assistance given is similar in the Islands and the Lowlands.
