HC Deb 21 April 1932 vol 264 cc1618-9
13. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that, in consequence of a Sheffield licensee and a bookmaker having been convicted and fined £50 and £60, respectively, the 10 licensing justices of the city refused to renew the licence; whether he is aware that, on appeal to the West Riding Quarter Sessions at Wakefield, the decision of the Sheffield justices was reversed and they were mulcted in costs; and whether, on the introduction of a new Licensing Bill, he will be prepared to consider the suggestion mentioned in paragraphs 652 and 653 of the report of the Royal Commission on Licensing on the question of appeals?

Sir H. SAMUEL

My attention had not been previously called to the case to which the hon. Member refers. He may be assured that the suggestions made by the Royal Commission will be carefully considered.
