HC Deb 21 April 1932 vol 264 cc1615-6
8. Sir CHARLES OMAN

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the feelings expressed in the House and the country as to the undesirable character of many cinematograph films passed by the present unofficial board of censors, he will take in consideration the supersession of that board by an official, and responsible committee?

Sir H. SAMUEL

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement which I made on this subject in the Debate on the Home Office Vote on Friday last.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that an official board of censors would be even more inept than an unofficial board?

Mr. VYVYAN ADAMS

Would not the purpose of the hon. Member for Oxford University (Sir C. Oman) be served by the formation of a national film institute?

Sir H. SAMUEL

That is a different question.
