HC Deb 20 April 1932 vol 264 c1463
29. Mr. LLEWELLYN-JONES

asked the Minister of Transport who is the person authorised to charge tolls in respect of the bridge over the estuary of the River Conway, between Deganwy and Conway, in the county of Carnarvon; whether any steps have been taken by the Carnarvon County Council, or any other local council, to acquire the bridge, under Section 53 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, with a view to the bridge being freed from tolls; and, if not, whether, having regard to the amount of vehicular traffic and the delay suffered by users of the bridge, he will consider the advisability of taking action to ensure that the provisions of the above section are put into operation?

Mr. PYBUS

The Conway Bridge Commissioners are authorised to charge tolls in respect of this bridge. I am not aware of any steps taken by the Carnarvon County Council or other local authority to acquire the bridge with a view to freeing it from tolls, but I should be prepared to consider any such proposals which may be made by the appropriate authorities, subject of course to the available resources of the Road Fund.
