HC Deb 20 April 1932 vol 264 c1471
43. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Secretary of State for India if he will state what is the number of British officers of the Indian Army who have retired, voluntarily or otherwise, in the past two years; and what number of new officers have been appointed to that Army during the same period?

The SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Sir Samuel Hoare)

From 1st April, 1930, to 31st March, 1932, the numbers are 253 and 227, respectively.

Are we to understand that the establishment of officers of the Indian Army is only about 30 under strength at present?

I would like to have notice of that question. I have given my hon. and gallant Friend the figures for which he asked.
