HC Deb 14 April 1932 vol 264 c978
22. Mr. HUTCHISON

asked the Home Secretary whether there will be any alteration in the administration of the law affecting sweepstakes by his Department during the period in which this question is being examined by the proposed commission?

Sir H. SAMUEL

I do not contemplate any alteration.

Mr. HUTCHISON

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that many magistrates have different notions as to the penalties that should be imposed, and therefore would it not be of great value if there were some official statement as to what action should be taken in these cases?

Sir H. SAMUEL

That is precisely one of the matters under consideration by the Royal Commission, and I must await their recommendation.
