HC Deb 12 April 1932 vol 264 c656
27. Mr. McENTEE

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of firms and what are their products which, domiciled on the Continent, have set up factories in Britain since the Abnormal Importations Act became operative?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The Board of Trade have received information regarding upwards of 40 new undertakings which have been set up in this country during the past few months by, or with the assistance of, foreign concerns. The range of the products to be made by these undertakings covers textile materials, garments, electrical and radio goods, toilet products and other articles.

Mr. McENTEE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say in how many cases these arrangements were entered upon before the Act became operative?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

They are nearly all of recent initiation.
