HC Deb 11 April 1932 vol 264 cc534-5
15. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what representations have been made to the League of Nations as to the treatment of the Jewish minority in Rumania at Jassy; and whether any steps are to be taken to improve matters of this sort in Rumania?

Mr. EDEN

The right hon. Gentleman presumably refers to an incident at Jassy on the 22nd and 23rd March, when a collision occurred between a number of students and the police and military. I am not aware that any complaints have been addressed to the League of Nations in respect of this incident. According to my present information, in spite of the fact that a synagogue appears to have been wrecked in the course of the disturbances, the conflict in question does not appear to have been due to anti-Semitism, but to other causes.
