HC Deb 07 April 1932 vol 264 c294
22. Mr. STRAUSS

asked the Home Secretary whether only uniform police are employed to control motor traffic; and, if not, in what circumstances plain-clothes policemen are employed for this purpose?

Sir H. SAMUEL

I am glad to have this opportunity of removing a misapprehension which appears to exist in some quarters that plain-clothes police are used to stop motor vehicles. The police employed for this purpose in the Metropolitan Police district are always in uniform, and I understand that the same practice obtains in the county and borough forces.
