HC Deb 07 April 1932 vol 264 c301
42. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is taking any steps and, if so, what to check the appreciation of sterling, in view of the effects of such appreciation upon our trade?

Major ELLIOT

I would refer the right hon. Member to the reply given to him on the 14th March.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Does the expressed desire of the Chancellor of the Exchequer to get back to the prices of 1929 still hold good, or are the Government doing nothing in the matter?

Major ELLIOT

I have repeatedly been adjured by the right hon. and gallant Gentleman to take no steps at all.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

You have been repeatedly adjured to reduce the Bank Rate. Has that step been taken?
