HC Deb 06 April 1932 vol 264 cc138-9
10. Mr. HICKS

asked the First Commissioner of Works the reason for the reduction in receipts for licences for letting chairs in the Royal Parks and pleasure grounds from £9,600 in 1931 to £8,000 in 1932?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

The reduction is due to the fact that, as the gross takings in recent years have tended to decrease, the net sum payable by the licensee under the terms of his agreement is not expected to exceed £8,000 for 1932.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the reason for the falling off is that at some period after the declaration of war twopence was charged instead of a penny, and the result is that in these hard times people will not pay twopence for a chair in Royal Parks or any other parks?
