HC Deb 05 April 1932 vol 264 cc12-3
20. Mr. STOURTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the strength of the Metropolitan Police force to date; and what proportion of the force is allocated to traffic duties?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir Herbert Samuel)

The actual strength of the force is 20,392, and of these 1,396 are allocated to traffic duties.

Lieut.-Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

Is not that a reduction as compared with what the strength of the force used to be?

Sir H. SAMUEL

I should like to have notice of that question.
