HC Deb 28 September 1931 vol 257 cc9-10
60. Mr. BROCKWAY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is intended to renew or vary the announced deductions in police pay after 1st October, 1932?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir Herbert Samuel)

The measures which come into operation next month are designed to secure a first instalment of 50 per cent. of the total saving required. The further measures to be put into force as from 1st October, 1932, are, as already explained, reserved for consideration in detail, and I cannot at present add anything to what I said in the course of the Debate last Friday.

Mr. BROCKWAY

In view of the apprehension which exists in the police force at the announcement that it is intended to double economy in the police force next year, can the right hon. Gentleman deny that there will be a further cut next year?

Sir H. SAMUEL

I cannot say anything at present. The matter is to be considered in consultation with the Police Council.
