HC Deb 23 September 1931 vol 256 c1633
28. Mr. ISAACS

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the present state of national finance, any decision has been reached to withhold or vary any grant-in-aid of the proposed Elephant and Castle traffic improvements now contemplated by the London County Council?

Mr. PYBUS

Discussions are proceeding with the London County Council as to the desirability of deferring the Elephant and Castle improvement scheme.

Mr. ISAACS

Can the Minister of Transport give me any indication when a decision is likely to be reached?

Mr. PYBUS

I cannot usefully add to the answer which I have already given, except to state that co-operation between the London County Council and my Department is friendly and complete.

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

Can the hon. Member state whether the London County Council is willing to abandon the Elephant and Castle scheme?

Mr. PYBUS

The London County Council have made no communication to us to that effect, or the other way either.
